Aunt Mona’s Manx Crumble is a proper old-fashioned sweet, rich and comforting, with a melt-in-the-mouth bite that breaks softly before dissolving into buttery warmth.

Softly crumbly, deeply satisfying, and made to be enjoyed slowly, preferably with a cup of tea and a good story.

The recipe begins with Aunt Mona, who at just 19 years old worked as a Manx Land Girl during the war. Like many young women of her generation, she learned to make the most of simple ingredients, sharing ideas, techniques, and small comforts wherever she could find them.

One of her inspirations came from the treats served and shared around Knockaloe Internment Camp, where ingenuity and kindness transformed rationed staples into moments of sweetness. Sugar was precious, butter was cherished, and nothing went to waste.

What mattered most was lifting spirits.

Back home, Aunt Mona adapted what she’d learned, creating what became known in the family as Manx Crumble. Wrapped in greaseproof paper, broken into generous pieces, and passed around kitchen tables, it became part of family life.

Those recipes were carefully handed down through the generations and are now kept by her great niece, Harriet, at Victory Farm.

They didn’t just survive. They inspired.

It was these family recipes, and the stories behind them, that became the spark for starting the business. A way of honouring Aunt Mona, preserving Manx food heritage, and sharing something honest, comforting, and rooted in place.

This is not a modern reinvention. It’s a traditional Manx crumble, made with care, history, and heart.

  • Aunt Mona’s Manx Crumble is made the old way, in small batches, using simple ingredients and a lot of care.

The recipe follows the traditional method passed down through the family, where sugar and butter are slowly worked together until they reach just the right texture. The mixture is carefully cooked, watched closely, and stirred by hand before being set and broken into its characteristic crumbly pieces.

    Nothing is rushed.
    Timing, temperature, and experience matter.

Once ready, the crumble is allowed to cool naturally before being cut and packed by hand, just as it would have been in Aunt Mona’s kitchen. The result is a sweet that’s rich, comforting, and full of that distinctive melt-in-the-mouth crumble.

Because it’s made in small batches, each piece has its own character. Slight variations are part of the tradition and a sign that it’s been made by people, not machines.

    Simple ingredients.
    Traditional methods.
A recipe that’s stood the test of time.
